Visteon builds the screens and computers in car dashboards. In the third quarter of 2026 its sales grew, but warranty charges and pricier electronic parts left little profit, so the question is whether carmakers will cover those parts costs.
In many newer cars, the speedometer is a screen rather than a needle. Visteon makes that kind of digital display and the computers that run a car's screens, so a recent car you have driven may contain its work. Its customers are carmakers, including BMW, Ford, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen. Visteon is paid for each unit it ships for the models it has been chosen to supply.
Once a carmaker picks Visteon for a model, Visteon's sales follow that model's production. Instrument clusters, the screens behind the steering wheel that show speed and warnings, are the main product. What Visteon keeps depends on three costs. The first is the electronic parts it buys, such as memory chips and circuit boards. When their prices jump, Visteon absorbs the extra cost until carmakers agree, after negotiation, to pay higher prices. The second is the engineering needed to win new models. The third is fixing faulty products. From 2023 to 2025, overhead and research costs held steady as a share of sales, so the gap between selling prices and product costs largely decides earnings.
