PPG's paints and coatings cover cars, aircraft, ships, roads and factory products. Wider margins and fewer shares lifted earnings while sales stood still; now sales are growing again, and the question is whether that reaches profit and cash.
The glossy paint on a repaired car door, the coating on an aircraft or the white line on a road may have come from PPG. The company makes paints, coatings and sealants for factories, aircraft, collision-repair shops, ships, roads and buildings. In ReasyPort's reading, once a coating is approved for a customer's process, the buyer is paying for productivity and compliance. That supports repeat orders and pricing.
PPG reports three divisions, or segments. Performance Coatings is the main profit engine. It supplies aircraft makers, sells repair paint to car and fleet repair shops, protects bridges and ships, and sells road markings to governments and contractors. In 2025 it earned about $1.1 billion of segment operating profit, more than Industrial Coatings, which sells more. Its sales have risen every year since 2022. Industrial Coatings sells directly to manufacturers and builds its coatings into their factory routines. Architectural Coatings sells building paint across several international regions. What remains depends on how far selling prices stay ahead of raw-material, energy, labor and freight costs, and on how efficiently PPG runs its sales and distribution network.
