Before a new medicine reaches a pharmacy shelf, someone has to find a molecule worth testing. Nurix Therapeutics does that work for cancer and inflammatory diseases. It designs drugs that break down specific proteins involved in disease. To find them, it screens a collection of more than 5 billion compounds and feeds the results to machine-learning software. Nurix sells no products. It earns money when drugmakers such as Gilead, Sanofi, Pfizer and now Roche pay to use its discoveries.
