A laboratory machine that analyses a blood sample or tests a new drug pushes tiny amounts of liquid through pumps, valves and filters. Those hidden parts may well come from Idex. Its largest business supplies precision fluid-handling parts, optical filters and cameras to companies that build analytical and diagnostic instruments. Its two other businesses make industrial pumps and flow meters, plus fire-truck pumps and the Hurst Jaws of Life tools that rescue crews use to cut open crashed cars. In each case Idex sells a part or tool precise enough to be written into a customer's own equipment or job.
