In fiscal 2026, FactSet sold more subscriptions to financial data but kept less of each dollar of revenue. Whether those higher costs prove temporary, as management says, will shape its earnings.
If you have a pension or an investment fund, the people managing it may well research companies on a FactSet screen. FactSet collects financial data on companies and markets, cleans and organises it, and delivers it inside tools that investors, bankers and wealth advisers use every day. More than 9,200 client firms, with over 260,000 professional users, pay for this access. They pay a recurring subscription fee, so most revenue repeats year after year.
Clients pay for data that is already wired into their models, screens and reports. Leaving would mean rebuilding how their teams work, so they tend to keep paying. The same data catalogue now feeds straight into clients' own AI systems, so one investment in data can be sold through more routes. The costs that matter are content licensed from exchanges, news sources and other suppliers, the technology that stores and delivers it, and the people who build products and serve clients. Much of that cost base is fixed. What remains depends on subscriptions growing faster than those costs.
