A small drone buzzing over a park is usually a toy. AeroVironment builds the military kind: aircraft that fly with no pilot on board and loitering munitions (small drones that circle an area before striking a target). It also makes systems that spot hostile drones and knock them out with radio signals. In May 2025 it bought BlueHalo and funded the deal with new shares and convertible notes, a form of debt. The deal added space electronics, cyber operations and directed-energy weapons (lasers and similar beams). It made AeroVironment a far larger defense contractor.
