Penguin Solutions' year to August 2026 was its most profitable in its recent record, mostly thanks to memory for AI data centres. But the growth used up cash, so whether the earnings last is still open.
When you ask a chatbot a question, the answer is probably worked out by data-centre servers packed with memory. Penguin Solutions supplies that kind of memory and storage, built from chips bought from makers such as Samsung and Micron. It also helps customers build and run whole AI data centres, and sells LED chips under the Cree LED brand. It earns the gap between what the parts cost and what customers pay to have them configured, tested and delivered on time.
Memory is the main business. Equipment makers in networking, storage, industrial and government markets pay Penguin for memory that fits their systems and arrives when needed. AI data-centre customers pay it to design, build and manage groups of servers. Because most of what Penguin sells is built from bought-in parts, three costs decide what it keeps: the parts, the engineers who design and test products, and the sales and support teams. Customers buy through individual orders, not long-term contracts, so revenue follows what they order.
