A gas stove or furnace may burn gas that travelled through pipes most people never see. Oneok owns that kind of hidden machinery: lines that collect gas near the wells, plants that clean it and pull out its liquids, and pipelines and storage that carry those liquids between Kansas, the upper Midwest, Texas and Louisiana. It also moves refined products (fuels made from crude oil) and crude itself. Most of what it earns comes from fees on what flows through, much like a toll.
