MYR Group builds and repairs power lines and wires large buildings. Its profits stepped up in the third quarter of 2026 alongside a mostly debt-funded purchase, and the question is whether that gain lasts and turns into cash.
When you flip a light switch, the power has probably travelled along high-voltage lines and through substations, the fenced sites where voltage is lowered. MYR Group builds, upgrades and repairs that equipment for electric utilities. Its second business, Commercial and Industrial, wires factories and commercial buildings and installs road lighting, traffic signals and electric-vehicle chargers. What it really sells is skilled electricians' time and heavy equipment, job by job.
Utilities and building owners pay MYR for work performed, and the contract type decides who bears cost overruns. On a fixed-price job, MYR keeps what is left of the agreed price after labor, equipment, materials and subcontractors, so careful bidding and productive crews set the margin. Other work is paid by the unit, by the hour or as reimbursed costs plus a fee, often under longer service agreements that bring repeat jobs. Many customers demand a performance bond (a guarantee that the job will be finished) before work starts; MYR describes its capacity to obtain them as an edge over smaller or less financially secure rivals. The utility business has long been the larger profit engine.
