When you stream a film or join a video call, the data probably passes through a data center, where racks of servers talk to each other over fast links that carry data as light. MaxLinear designs chips for that market and for broadband equipment such as home internet modems. Outside factories make them, and MaxLinear sells them to companies that build them into their own equipment; most are shipped to Asia. It earns money by solving hard problems, such as moving more data with less power, well enough that customers keep buying.
