Before a new medicine or medical device reaches patients, it has to be tested on volunteers in supervised studies called clinical trials. A medicine your doctor prescribes may well have gone through trials like these. Medpace runs these trials for the companies that own the products, known as sponsors, across the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. It chooses qualified doctors and hospitals, checks that patients have agreed to take part, watches over the data and reports side effects. Cancer and metabolic diseases (conditions that affect how the body uses food and energy) are its two largest areas of work.
