Bausch Health's most profitable business, Salix, earned more operating profit in 2025 than the larger Bausch + Lomb. The question is whether that profit lasts while heavy debt absorbs much of what owners might keep.
When a doctor writes a prescription or a pharmacist hands over a box of tablets, the product may come from Bausch Health. The company sells medicines, medical devices and pharmacy-shelf products through five businesses. The largest, Bausch + Lomb, has outside shareholders and keeps its own cash. The most profitable, Salix, sells medicines in the United States.
Almost all revenue comes from product sales. In the United States, insurers and the public programs Medicare and Medicaid push for discounts, rebates and coverage limits, and the company says this has already lowered the prices it collects. Elsewhere, including Canada, governments set drug prices and expect them to fall over time. In 2025, Bausch + Lomb brought in $5.1 billion of revenue and Salix $2.6 billion. Yet Salix kept $1.9 billion as operating profit, what is left after its own costs but before interest and taxes, against $1.1 billion at Bausch + Lomb. Both figures come before head-office costs that no single business carries. Selling and administrative costs are the biggest expense the company can control.
