Company-wide revenue grew 8% year over year in the latest reported quarter.

Consolidated operating margin improved to 0.6% from negative 0.8% in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, but Commercial Airplanes reported a negative 2.7% margin.

Operating cash flow was $1.4 billion in the quarter, while the first six months used $2 billion for capital spending against $1.2 billion of operating cash flow, keeping the recovery dependent on sustained execution.

The key operating issue is converting higher aircraft deliveries into profitable production. Boeing increased volume, but the core commercial-aircraft business still produced an operating loss.

Production reliability matters because certification delays, supplier problems, labor disruption, or rising manufacturing costs can reduce deliveries, compress margins, and delay the cash improvement needed to support Boeing’s debt and investment commitments.

Boeing converts engineering, manufacturing, and service capabilities into aircraft, defense systems, and customer support. Airlines buy commercial aircraft such as the 737 and 787. Governments buy military aircraft, satellites, weapons, and other defense and space systems. Commercial and defense customers also pay for maintenance, logistics, spare parts, upgrades, and training.

Boeing reports three segments. Commercial Airplanes develops and sells passenger and cargo aircraft. Defense, Space & Security supplies military and space systems to the United States government, other governments, and international customers. Global Services supports commercial and defense fleets worldwide. In the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, revenue was $24.6 billion, up 8% year over year, led partly by 171 commercial deliveries. Backlog, meaning orders expected to generate future revenue, reached $715 billion.

Management is prioritizing safer, higher-quality, more stable production and on-time delivery. The main dependency is Boeing’s coordinated supply chain and regulatory approval: suppliers must deliver conforming parts, while the Federal Aviation Administration must approve production and aircraft certification. This matters because delays increase costs and postpone customer payments. The investor conclusion is that Boeing’s revenue opportunity is substantial, but profit conversion depends on execution across factories, suppliers, and regulators.
