The fries that come with a burger at a fast-food counter may well have started in a Lamb Weston plant. The company turns raw potatoes into frozen potato products and sells them to restaurant chains, foodservice distributors (wholesalers that supply professional kitchens) and retailers, in North America and abroad. McDonald's alone accounted for about 15% of sales in , the company's accounting year ended May 31, 2026.
Lamb Weston earns the gap between what buyers pay and what it costs to make the product. North America is the main engine: in fiscal 2026 it brought in $4.4 billion, about twice as much as international markets. A restaurant chain pays for the same product every time, delivered in large volumes, with reliable service behind it. The market is crowded, and local producers are adding capacity in emerging markets, so competition limits how far prices can move. What remains depends mostly on how efficiently the production lines run and on what potatoes, cooking oil and energy cost.
