A toll booth on digital payments
Visa Inc. runs a payment network. When someone pays with a Visa card, its system connects the shopper's bank, the seller's bank, and the seller, then authorizes, clears, and settles the payment. Visa does not issue cards or lend money; it earns fees each time a payment runs across its systems. Its customers are the financial institutions, payment companies, sellers, and governments that need a trusted way to move money at global scale. In 2025, Visa-branded activity reached 329 billion payments and cash transactions, and 258 billion of those ran directly on Visa's own network.
